Meet Zach, a world ranked chess played residing in upstate New York. His mother, Michele, is a photographer specializing in child and family photography and she reached out to us about doing a special IHNY session focusing on Zach’s love of chess. He’s been playing since he was 5 and is ranked 20th out of 204 in his age division in the world. So cool!
We started our session with Zach playing against some people in Washington Square Park, I’m pretty sure Zach didn’t want to stop playing! After the park we walked along Thompson Street where all the chess shops and clubs are in the city. I had no idea some of those places were there! We then made our way to the Marshall Chess Club, perhaps Zach’s favorite place in all of New York City. He wants to go to NYU for college but I think his mother is afraid he’ll fail out for all the chess playing he’ll end up doing! Perhaps but at least it’s something he loves! We had a great time with Michele and Zach and it was fun to challenge ourselves with such an interesting IHNY session!d
